Trucker docked on four count charge of stealing

A 27-year-old man named Olamide Olatise was arraigned at the Apapa Magistrate Court yesterday by the police on a four-count charge of stealing 3,332 litres of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) also known as diesel, three truck tyres, one heavy duty motor battery and damaging the front of the truck.

The allegations stated that Olamide Olatise and others now at large, on the 27th October 2016 at about 1400hrs at Tin-Can Island Ports, Apapa in the Apapa Magisterial District, did conspire among themselves to commit felony to wit stealing and wilful damage and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 409 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2011.

Also on the same date, time and place in the magisterial district, olatise as driver and conductor of a Mack truck number LSD 345 XF assigned to convey 32,999 litres of diesel from agos to Ondo State allegedly damaged the front face of the truck beyond mechanical repair and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 337 of the criminal laws of Lagos State 2011.

The third charge was that the defendant and others now at large on the same date, time and place in the Apapa Magisterial District, allegedly stole 3,332 litres of diesel valued at N656,601 property of one Mrs Valerie Ogbodu and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 285 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2011.

The accused pleaded not guilty to all the four-count charges.

The Magistrate, Mrs Osho Adebiyi granted him bail in the sum of N300, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case to 12 December 2016 for trial.
