Two armed robbers docked for stealing gold chain, others in Apapa

Two armed robbers were on Thursday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing a bag containing gold chain, phone, ATM card and physical cash in Apapa.

The armed robbers are Onume Ubogu (24) and Hope Friday (25). They are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, possession of dangerous weapons and stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Augustine Ejembi, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on May 29, 2019 at about 2:30am at Alhaji Salawu Street, Olodi-Apapa.

“The defendants conspired together with two others at large to violently intimidate one Mrs Temitope Kehinde with cutlass and other weapons with intent to steal from her,” Ejembi said.

The prosecutor also said that the defendants stole a bag containing one LG handset valued at N27,000, physical cash of N4,000, gold chain valued at N49,000, UBA ATM card. All totalling the sum of N80,000 property of Temitope Kehinde.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.

Magistrate Ayisha Grillo granted the defendants bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

The sureties are required to furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.  

She adjourned the case till July 5, 2019 for mention.
