Man accused of stealing N40m Gotv decoders at Tin Can port

A 35-year-old man, Ali Abubakar, was on Monday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing a container load of GOtv decoders worth N40 million at Tin Can Island Port, Apapa, Lagos.

Abubakar is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The port prosecutor, Alexander Esebamen, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometimes in September 2019.

“The defendant conspired with others at large to steal 3,600 pieces of Digital Terrestial Decoder (GOtv) packed in 720 cartons, content of 1x40ft container number CMAU5300494 valued at N40 million properties of Protus Global Logistics Limited,” Esebamen said.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411 and 287 (5b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges. Magistrate Adenike Alaka granted him N100,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

The sureties are required to be gainfully employed and furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case till December 11, 2019 for mention.
