Two men docked for stealing N3.5m car

The police on Thursday arraigned two men before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing a Mercedes-Benz 814 car valued at N3.5 million at Apapa.

The duo, Ogbonna Hillary (50) and Ndibe Richard (48), is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, false pretence and stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Marvellous Obongha, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on September 3, 2019 at about 10am at Berger United Port Express, Olodi-Apapa.

“The defendants conspired together with others at large to unlawfully obtain a Mercedes-Benz 814 car valued at N3.5 million property of one Anazodo Sylvester with a pretence that he will pay him in two weeks, a representation he knew to be false,” Obongha said.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 315(1b) and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Magistrate Oluwatope Olorunfemi granted them bail in the sum of N100,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum. The sureties are required to furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government.

The Magistrate adjourned the matter till December 23, 2020 for mention.
