A 27-year-old truck driver, Prince Ogbonna was on Monday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a heavy duty battery and air filter from a truck in Apapa.
Ogbonna is facing a two-count charge bothering on conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Benedict Aigbokhan told the court that the defendant committed the offence on May 31, 2018 at about 8:30pm at Sunrise Bus Stop, Olodi-Apapa.
“The defendant being the driver of Iveco Truck with registration number FKD 587 XL conspired together with others to steal one heavy duty battery valued N25,000 and one air filter valued N25,000 property of one Shina Fadipe,” Aigbokhan said.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.
The defendant however pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
The Magistrate, Joy Ugbomoiko granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety. The surety, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with evidence of employment and proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case till July 4, 2018 for mention.
In a separate matter, an Apapa Magistrates’ Court will on Wednesday sentence a truck driver, identified as Ifeanyi Dim for allegedly stealing N150,000 belonging to the truck owner, Ekwueme Ike.
Dim was arraigned on Monday, facing a one-count charge bothering on stealing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Augustine Ejembi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on December 30, 2017 at about 8pm at Hall Lane in GRA, Apapa.
“The accused stole the sum of N150,000 property of Ekwueme Ike,” Ejembi said.
According to him, the offence is punishable under section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
Dim pleaded guilty to the charge against him.
In her rulling, Magistrate O.M Ajayi adjourned the case till June 6, 2018 for facts and sentence.
