Two men and a woman have been arraigned in these separate matters in Apapa for allegedly assaulting policemen in the Apapa area of Lagos.
In one of the cases, a 23-year-old man identified as Senu Peter was on Thursday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting one police officer, Sergeant Oyoko Monday.
Peter is facing a one-count charge of assault.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Kolade Tedunjaye told the court that the defendant committed the offence on November 20, 2018 at 7pm in front of Ajeromi Police Station, Ajegunle, Apapa.
“The defendant deliberately and unlawfully assaulted one Sergeant Oyoko Monday by giving fist blow on his mouth while he was performing his lawful duty at the police station gate,” Tedunjaye said.
According to her, the offence is punishable under section 174 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.
Magistrate, O.S Abioye granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.
The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must be gainfully employed and furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
One of sureties must be a blood relative to the defendant.
He adjourned the matter till December 13, 2018 for mention.
In the second matter which came up on Friday, a 25-year-old man, identified as Friday Offong, was arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting one police officer, Paul Ogbeh, at Apapa.
Offong is facing a one-count charge of assault.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Iyabosa Onaiwu, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on November 21, 2018 at about 5:30pm at Warehouse Bus Stop, Olodi-Apapa.
“The defendant did unlawfully assault one police officer, Paul Ogbeh, while he was executing his lawful duty by dragging him down from a bike,” Onaiwu said.
According to her, the offence is punishable under section 174 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.

He adjourned the matter till December 12, 2018 for mention.
The third case sees a 28-year-old woman, identified as Ifeoma Amaraegbu, arraigned on Friday before another Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly causing breach of peace and assaulting one police officer.
Amaraegbu is facing a two-count charge bordering on assault and breach of peace.
The prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on November 19, 2018 at about 5:30pm at Satellite Police Station, Agbogu.
“The defendant assaulted the Divisional Crime Officer (DCO), Supol Femi Balogun, by rough handling him and pouring water on his body while performing his lawful duty,” Ekpo said.
The prosecutor also said that the defendant conducted herself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by shaking the cell door and disturbing the peace of other suspects in the cell.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 174 and 168 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against her.
Magistrate, Nurudeen Layeni granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety.
He adjourned the matter till December 17, 2018 for mention.
