Two missing after fishing vessel clashes with boxship

At least two crew members are missing after a Taiwanese fishing vessel collided with a 1987-built containership Shin Chun off Kaohsiung in the morning hours of February 29, Taiwan’s Coast Guard informed.

According to the official statement, the two missing people, Taiwanese and Indonesian nationals, one of them identified as the skipper, were aboard the fishing vessel, which sank following the collision.

Taiwanese authorities dispatched patrol vessels and an aircraft to assist in the search and rescue efforts.

The officials will conduct an investigation of the incident, which occurred while the 14,263 dwt boxship was on its way from Fuzhou to Kaohsiung.
