The United States (US) has donated six inshore patrol speed boats to the Nigerian military.
US Consul-General Jeffery Hawkins said that the boats will enhance intensive training for personnel of the Joint Maritime Security Training Centre (JMSTC). The six 25-foot patrol boats light and spare parts are valued at 1 million dollars.
Hawkins made the disclosure at the graduation ceremony of 25 personnel of the Nigerian Navy (NN) of the JMSTC and the commissioning of two additional speed patrol boats held at Navy Town, Ojo, Lagos.
In his response, the guest of honor, the Chief of Defence Staff, Admiral Ola Sa’ad Ibrahim, said the purpose of the centre is to provide a focal point for maritime security training activities across the Armed Forces, as well as law enforcement agencies in order to assist in enhancing their effectiveness in conducting joint littoral, riverine and maritime operations.
