In an apparent show of solidarity, the Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Hadiza Bala Usman on Wednesday came to the rescue of the Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa by donating computers and other office equipment to the commission.

Two weeks ago, Dabiri-Erewa raised the alarm that NIDCOM and its officials were thrown out of their offices at the Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) Annex in Abuja on the orders of the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Pantami.

She said all the office equipment of NIDCOM were trapped at the NCC annex following the forceful ejection.

While making the donation in Abuja on Wednesday, Bala Usman, said it was part of the corporate social responsibility of the NPA.

Represented by Edward Dauda Kabir, General Manager, Monitoring and Compliance of NPA, Abuja Liaison Office, USMAN said the kind gesture was to improve NIDCOM’S working capacity towards meeting its mandate.

Receiving the items, Dabiri Erewa, said, “I have to thank my dear Sister, Hadiza Bala Usman for her thoughtfulness and kindness towards a sister MDA in need. I am short of words. You have really made my day.

“This is very good news in the midst of a depressing week. I want to say a big thank you for your hands of fellowship. This goes to show that women do help themselves.”

`The NIDCOM boss also expressed gratitude to the Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed, and the First Lady, Aisha Buhari, for their “hands of fellowship” to the commission.

Among the donated items are 20 desktop computers, 10 laptops and two photocopy machines.
