A 59-year-old vessel owner, Dickson Ezemezu, was on Thursday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly abandoning a shipwreck and conducting himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace.
Ezemezu is facing a two-count charge bordering on breach of peace and threat to life.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Marvellous Obongha, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in the months of May to 26th July, 2018 at Earth Movers Jetty, Kirikiri Town, Apapa.
“The defendant did abandon a wreck vessel which has constituted hideout for criminals and when you were instructed to remove the said vessel you failed and conducted yourself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace,” Obongha said.
The prosecutor added that the defendant threatened the life of one Chief Babatunde Babalola Shabi, by telling him that he would show him that he was from Ajegunle.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 168 and 56 (1)(a,b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
Magistrate K.A Ariyo granted the defendant bail in the sum of N80,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.
The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the matter to September 17, 2018 for mention.
