The air component of Operation Delta Safe, the joint task force outfit in the Niger Delta, has destroyed barges and canoes conveying “stolen” petroleum products in Rivers state.
A video released by the force said the operation took place on Friday.
During the resurgence of militant activities, the military vowed to deal with those sabotaging oil assets in the country.
“While on armed patrol over Isaka and Bille towns, Nigerian Air Force helicopter sited and set ablaze 2 illegal oil barges and canoes containing drums filled with stolen products,” read a statement issued after the operation.
“Another set of 2 barges were also destroyed in a similar operation conducted around Kidney Island and Alakiri town on 10 November 2016.
The latest operations showed that illegal bunkering activities have resumed around Bille and environs. Nevertheless, the NAF will not relent in its pursuit to put an end to these acts of economic sabotage by ridding the region of these criminal elements. ”
