A 25-year-old man, Umaru Abdullahi, reported to be wharf rat appeared before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court yesterday for allegedly assaulting a railway police officer.
Abdullahi is facing three-count charge bordering on assault and breach of public peace.
The prosecutor said that the complainant, Sgt. Musa Ishaku attached to the Railway Police Station, was assaulted by the defendant while he was on duty at the charge room of the said police station.
The prosecutor added that the defendant escaped from the police custody and maliciously damaged one cell phone valued N10,000 property of one Ismaila of Railway Compund, Apapa.
According to the Prosecutor, the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of public peace.
The offences contravened sections 172 (B), 106 (B) and 348 of the criminal laws of Lagos State, 2011.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the three-count charges against him.
The Magistrate, Mrs A.I.O Alaka, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N10,000 with one surety.
The case was adjourned till June 6, 2017 for mention.
