The reason for the scarcity is obvious. We are not refining our crude here in Nigeria. The incoming government should look into the subsidy regime, you know we have refining capacity, they should put it to use.
We all know some politicians have business links with refineries outside the country so they take our oil there. Government should ensure that our refineries work so that we can refine locally and fuel can be surplus.
The lasting solution to this frequent scarcity of petroleum products is to firstly build a new Refinery that would be used to refine our crude oil here in Nigeria.
The government should stop doing Turn around Maintenance (TAM) of our existing refineries, but instead build another one.
Also, government should look into the subsidy regime; whether to stop it or reorganize it because we all know what the regime looks like.
In a situation where our refineries are not working; what should we expect if not this present situation which we find ourselves in.
In a country where we have crude but depend solely on importation of refined petroleum products, there is every tendency that the problem will continue. What the government should do is to fix our refineries here at home.
A situation where we have crude oil we are exporting to refine our crude outside the country and then import back to the country is ridiculous.
The cost of doing this is much. It is a must that we get our refineriesworking because if we refuse, we will continue having problem of scarcity as we facing now.
