The Women in Logistics and Transport (WILAT) has celebrated its 13th anniversary in Lagos.
WILAT is the female wing of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT). It was created to cater for women from all modes of the transport industry including the road, rail, aviation, maritime and logistics.
Every last Thursday in July is dedicated to celebrate WILAT Day and the theme for the 2023 WILAT day was “Women Entrepreneurs in a Dynamic Environment”.
The Chairperson for WILAT Nigeria, Pharmacist Khadijah Sheidu-Shabi, in her welcome address, said the WILAT Day provides the opportunity for knowledge transfer and networking with women from different fields coming together to mentor and learn from one another.
She said this year’s event is tagged “Role Models” and it was created to enlarge the scope of the women beyond what they get professionally. She said this was done by bringing in a developer, health worker, banker and business entrepreneurs to educate women on what they can do to enrich themselves.
“Basically, what we are doing is to raise the standard and wellbeing of women,” she said.
The National Executive Director, Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) Nigeria, Raynolds Shodeyinde said WILAT was created to break barriers, shatter glass ceilings and create an environment where every woman can thrive and succeed.
He enjoined women to embrace the challenges that lie ahead and face adversities with the strength within them while working together to effect positive change in the society.
Delivering the keynote address, the Chief Executive Officer of Lelook Nigeria Limited, Mrs. Chinwe Ezenwa, said women should look beyond their challenges to create wealth. She said they should turn every disability to sources of wealth.
Citing an example of her brother who was physically challenged but was trained to make people’s hair, she said women should be bold to take up new challenges to become better in life.
