WILAT solicits PMAWCA support in integrating other African countries

Women in Logistics and Transport (WILAT), Nigeria last Thursday solicited the support of the Port Management Association of the West and Central Africa (PMAWCA) in its drive to extend and integrate its network to other African countries.
President of the group, Hajia Aisha Ali Ibrahim made the plea when she led executives of the association to the office of the Secretary General of PMAWCA, Michael Luguje.
Ali Ibrahim who is also the Traffic Manager, Tin Can Island Port, said that the role and the importance of PMAWCA in the maritime sector cannot be over emphasized hence the need to collaborate with the association in order to reach out to women in other African countries.

She said although the group has grown since its establishment in 2010 to countries such as Middle East, Hong Kong, Pakistan, South Africa, Uganda and Sri Lanka, there is need to extend to other countries in other to have its feet firm on the ground.
“PMAWCA is important association to us in particular from the maritime industry. It is a family association. By the time they reach out to women in other West African countries through their association, I think we will have our firm feet on the ground. We are not looking for equality but just those supports to enable us do better on our jobs and our businesses”, she said.
Responding, Secretary General of PMAWCA, Michael Luguje expressed appreciation to the WILAT executives noting that the visit was the first time a women group would visit the secretariat.He commended the group for sacrificing their time to serve the port community even as he pledged the support of his association towatds the development of WILAT.
