WMU to contribute to review of Mozambique Maritime legal framework

World Maritime University (WMU) Associate Professor, Dr. Aref Fakhry, has visited Maputo, Mozambique for review of maritime legal framework.

 

The visit was organized under the framework of preparations for the WMU project: “Consultancy Services for the Review and Updating of the Maritime Activity Legal Framework for Mozambique.”

 

During the visit, Dr. Fakhry met with high officials of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, and the National Maritime Institute (INAMAR) – the implementation coordinating institution of the project.

 

Mozambique is an East African coastal nation with enormous potential for the use of the sea.

 

Under the Spatial Development Planning Technical Assistance Project concluded between the Government of Mozambique and the World Bank and designed to identify a set of measures in areas of potential growth, the Government wishes to see a study on the revision and updating of legislation regarding maritime activities in Mozambique.

 

Professor Fakhry is the team leader for the project that will run for 6 months in partnership with Open Plan Consulting Srl (OPC), and the International Maritime Safety, Security and Environment Academy (IMSSEA).
