Dogara orders probe of debts, sabotage of downstream oil sector

The Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara on Tuesday in Abuja called for proper investigation into alleged debts and sabotage of downstream sector by oil marketers.

Dogara made the call while inaugurating the House adhoc Committee to carry out the investigation.

Represented by the Chief Whip of the House, Alhassan Doguwa; Dogara called on the committee to examine the existing laws and practices in the country’s downstream oil sector with a view to covering all the loopholes.

He said, “We expect that in no distant time, the committee will be inviting some companies and individuals to provide answers to questions as to what happened to the downstream sector.

“We hope that this committee will conduct its affairs in a serious and corrupt free manner, the House will not tolerate any evidence of undue influence or improper conduct.”

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the committee, Abdullahi Gaya, said that the task came in good time to curb the excesses of oil marketers who refuse to operate by laid down rules.

He said, “It will also help government to recover funds owed by oil marketers and those they connive with.

“Today we read our Marshal Act and we will execute it to ensure that those that infract rules of engagement in the downstream oil market are brought to book.”
