Police arraign truck manager for aiding driver’s escape

The police on Thursday arraigned a 30-year-old truck manager, Muhammed Abdulahi, before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly permitting the escape of the truck driver and the vehicle along Oshodi/Apapa Expressway.

Abdulahi who is a resident at No 12, Ojo Road, Ibadan, Oyo State, is facing a two-count charge bothering on conspiracy and attempt to prevent justice.

The prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on August 16, 2018 by 9am along Oshodi/Apapa Expressway by UBA Junction.

“The defendant being the Manager in charge of one DAF truck with registration number ZAMAFA GUS 590 X driven by one Mufspha who caused obstruction to other road users along Oshodi/Apapa Expressway by UBA
Junction,” Ekpo said.

The prosecutor also added that the defendant conspired with others at large and attempted to prevent justice by escaping with the vehicle.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 108 and 97 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

The Magistrate, Nurudeen Layeni granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety. He adjourned the case till September 5, 2018 for mention.
