A 27-year-old man, identified as Ifeanyi Junior Peter, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing phones worth N198,500 at Apapa.
Peter is facing a three-count charge bordering on stealing. The prosecutor, Inspector Feddy Asu, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometimes in August 2018 at about 5:10am at No 96, Iyalode Street, Ajegunle, Apapa.
“The defendant stole one Samsung Edge phone valued at N118,000, one Infinix phone valued at N38,000. Total value N156,000 property of one Daniel Udoh,” Asu said.
The prosecutor also said that the defendant stole one Juno phone valued at N35,000 property of one Femi Ola and one Tecno phone valued at N7,500 property of one Eddy Francis.
According to him, the offences are punishable under section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
Magistrate M.O Olubi granted the defendant bail in the sum N100,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum. He said one of the sureties must be a pastor.
The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the matter till January 14, 2019 for mention.
