The Federal Ministry of Transportation on Wednesday disclosed that at least 10 out of the 13 proposed pilot Truck Transit Parks (TTPs) will be operational in 2019.
The Director, Road Transport and Mass Transit in the Ministry, Dr Anthonia Ekpa, made the disclosure during a press briefing at the 2018 Africa Transport Policy Programme’s (SSATP) Annual General Meeting (AGM) holding in Abuja.
SSATP, with 41 member countries, is an international partnership to facilitate policy development and related capacity building in the transport sector in Africa.
Ekpa said the Federal Government is worried about the rising accidents on Nigerian roads involving trucks and it is putting in place measures to end or reduce them to the barest minimum.
Statistics from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), shows that about 10,050 Nigerians die annually in road accidents.
This means there are 27 deaths on the roads daily, and this excludes hundreds of victims who suffer various degrees of injuries and permanent disabilities from such carnages.
