Four docked for stealing items worth N.7m at Apapa port

A 20-year-old man, identified as Chinedu Nwalego, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly receiving one stolen HP Laptop belonging to a clearing agent, Adesanya Aderibigbe, in Apapa.

Nwalego is facing a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on October 30, 2018 at about 12pm at No 130, Mba Street, Ajegunle, Apapa.

“The defendant conspired together with one Ejike Obioma and others at large by receiving one stolen HP Laptop valued at N170,000 from Obioma, a property of one Adesanya Aderibigbe,” Ekpo said.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411 and 328 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

Magistrate Nurudeen Layeni granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must be gainfully employed and must furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the case till December 6, 2018 for mention.
