A 56-year-old man, identified as Odekun Adeleye on Monday pleaded guilty to stealing electric cable belonging to the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) at Tin Can Island Port, Apapa, Lagos.
Adeleye, who was charged before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court, was arraigned on a two-count charge of trespass and stealing.
The prosecutor, Alexander Esebamen told the court that the accused committed the offence on March 25, 2018 at about 5am at Marketing Hall, Tin Can Island Port, Apapa.
He said, “The accused trespassed into NPA premises and was found in possession of a roll of electric cable wire valued at N100,000 suspected to have been stolen.”
Esebamen said when an NPA security officer accosted Adeleye, the accused was unable to give account of the cable in his possession.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 168 (1h) and 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.
