A 21-year-old suspected cultist, Shadrack Ilelabayo, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stabbing a truck driver with broken bottle on his face in Apapa.
Ilelabyo is facing a four-count charge of conspiracy, assault, breach of peace and managing unlawful society.
The prosecutor, Inspector Francisca Job, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on November 26, 2019 at about 11:48pm at Railway Line, Ijora Badia, Apapa.
“The defendant conspired together with others at large to stab one Olaide Oladipupo with broken bottle on his face and caused him permanent injury whereby his left eye became blind.
“The defendant threatened violence as well as disturbing and encouraging disturbances of peace with his other suspected cult members,” Job said.
The prosecutor also said that the defendant operated an unlawful society.
According to her, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 246(a), 56(b) and 41 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty. Magistrate A.I Alaka granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum. The sureties are required to furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the matter till January 9, 2020 for mention.
