Comptroller Babatunde Olomu, Apapa Customs Area Controller, has reassured port users that clearing of goods and other activities will continue uninterrupted at the command despite concerns about a nationwide protest.
Addressing stakeholders in Apapa on Tuesday, Olomu emphasised the importance of rebuilding confidence among importers, exporters, and other port users.
He confirmed that customs officers will be available to facilitate legitimate trade and discharge their duties as usual, with help desks open to address inquiries.
Olomu reminded the Apapa Port community that customs officers will work from 8am on weekdays and may work weekends if necessary.
The Area Controller thanked compliant port users, describing them as “partners in progress,” and reiterated the command’s commitment to maximising government revenue collection while ensuring due diligence in cargo examination.
Also speaking, the Commissioner of Police, Western Ports Police Command, Lanre Ishola thanked Olomu for convening the meeting and pledged that the police will respect citizens’ rights at all times.
Port Manager, Apapa Port, Charles Okaga reminded attendees that the port operates 24/7 and announced that the Nigerian Ports Authority will sensitise shipping companies and terminal operators to maintain normal services, waiving demurrage charges for days when services were unavailable.
