The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced a significant revenue collection of N277.5 billion on import duties in August, with an additional N15.8 billion generated from excise duties.
This was disclosed by the NCS spokesperson, Chief Superintendent of Customs Abdullahi Maiwada, during a news conference in Abuja.
He said the service also recorded 83 seizures across various commands, including 170,000 liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), 3,083 bags of foreign rice, and 1,014 parcels of cannabis sativa, with a total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N975,066,791.65.
CSC Maiwada said the NCS intensified its “Operation Whirlwind” to combat the smuggling of petroleum products, resulting in the interception of seven PMS trucks, the sealing of 12 retail outlets, and the seizure of 466,000 liters of PMS and 23 vehicles.
According to him, investigations have led to the prosecution of seven suspects, with three marketers fined by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).
