The Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN) has launched “Fifty Drivers of the Nigerian Maritime and Blue Economy”, a publication highlighting the individuals and institutions shaping the nation’s maritime sector.
Unveiled in Lagos on Thursday under the theme “Driving the Blue Agenda: Recognising Champions Steering Nigeria’s Marine Economy,” the event brought together industry stakeholders to honour key contributors to sectoral growth.
Chairing the launch, former Minister of Interior, Capt. Emmanuel Ihenacho, underscored the maritime sector’s critical role in national development.
He traced its evolution from the establishment of the National Shipping Line in 1959 to the creation of NIMASA in 2007, noting its vast potential if effectively harnessed.
Representing the Nigerian Shippers’ Council Executive Secretary, Barr. Pius Ukeyima Akutah, Assistant Director Juliana Saka described the book as a timely milestone.
She praised MARAN for documenting the contributions of industry players and emphasised the need for collaboration, innovation, and accountability to unlock the opportunities within the blue economy.
Former NSC Executive Secretary Hassan Bello commended the initiative as fitting recognition for over six decades of sectoral progress, urging collective commitment to sustaining maritime development.
Reviewing the publication, former NPA SERVICOM General Manager Carol Ufere said it provides research-driven insight into the ministries, agencies, leaders, and reforms shaping Nigeria’s maritime future.
MARAN Caretaker Committee Chairman Tunde Ayodele said the publication honours individuals and institutions whose efforts have defined Nigeria’s maritime trajectory.
He described the launch as a historic moment for both maritime media and the wider sector, noting that the first edition also spotlights emerging talents poised to influence the industry.
