A 28-year-old truck driver, identified as Garuba Abdullahi was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly causing the death of one 51-year-old, Ade Ilufemi.
Abdullahi who resides at No 22, Saba 8 Ajosin Street, Maza-Maza, is facing a two-count charge bordering on manslaughter and traffic offences
The prosecutor, Inspector Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on August 22, 2018 at about 4:30pm along Okoduwa Road, Kirikiri Town, Apapa.
“The defendant being the driver in charge of one DAF Truck with registration number LAGOS EPE 984 XM drove same on the public highway in a manner which was reckless and dangerous to the public, having regard to the circumstance of the case including the nature, condition and use of Highway Code and caused the death of one Ade Ilufemi, a-51-year-old man of No 6, Agunbiade Street, Kirikiri Town, Lagos,” Aigbokhan said.
The prosecutor also said that the defendant drove the same vehicle without Driver’s License.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 20 and 7(1) of the Road Traffic Act, Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2012.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
Magistrate Joy Ugbomoiko granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two responsible sureties.
The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case till September 26, 2018 for mention.
Meanwhile, a 30-year-old man, identified as Omojugba Adeoye was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing the sum of N200,000 from Captain Olugbodi.
Adeoye is facing a one-count charge bordering on stealing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 28, 2018 at about 1:30pm at No 68b, Mba Street, Olodi-Apapa.
“The defendant stole the sum of N200,000 property of one Captain Olugbodi,” Aigbokhan said.
According to him, the offence is punishable under section 287(9)(b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
Magistrate Joy Ugbomoiko granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one responsible surety.
The surety, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case till October 4, 2018 for mention.
