For the first time ever, the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has qualified for the final of the Annual Ships & Ports Maritime Cup Competition.
The NPA team qualified for the final match of the prestigious and highly competitive tournament on Saturday evening after a hard won victory over 2009 champions, Nigerian Navy.
The match, which ended 1-1 at regulation time, was decided on penalty kicks with NPA emerging winner 5-4.
“We made history today. I’m very excited. It’s unbelievable but we couldn’t have gone this far without the support and motivation of our Managing Director, Hajia Hadiza Bala-Usman who has always encouraged us and provided all necessary resources for us to excel in this tournament,” one of the elated handlers of the NPA team said after the narrow victory.
NPA will face the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) in the final match on Tuesday, October 9, 2018. It is the first time both teams will face each other.
