An 18-year-old man, identified as Joseph Oluwaseyi, who allegedly assaulted a policewoman with a fist blow on her chin, on Friday, appeared before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
Oluwaseyi is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy, assault and breach of peace.
According to the Police Prosecutor, Sergeant Kolade Tedunjaye, the defendant committed the offences on January 9, 2019 at about 1pm at Waterside, Ijegun-Egba, Satellite Town, Lagos.
Tedunjaye said the defendant assaulted one woman Sergeant Mercy James by giving her fist blow on her chin while performing her lawful duty which caused her bodily harm.
She also added that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by inviting hoodlums to attack her and her team of surveillance while performing their lawful duty.
The offences contravene Sections 174 and 168(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
In his ruling, the Magistrate, B.M Amore, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.
Amore said the sureties should be gainfully employed and should show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the case till February 4, 2019 for mention.
