Again, the National Headquarters of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) has sacked the members of the Executive Committee, Tin-Can Chapter.
The dismissed NAGAFF Tin-Chapter Executive Committee, which was headed by Mr. Uche Nwabude, SHIPS & PORTS DAILY recalls, had been appointed earlier this year, following the sacking of the erstwhile Executive Committee, which had Sir Jude Maduka as Chairman.
SHIPS & PORTS DAILY equally recalls that Maduka had secured the mandate in a keenly-contested election, part of the first and only polls to-date that NAGAFF has conducted, and which were restricted to the chapter level.
No reason had emerged from the NAGAFF National Headquarters when Maduka was removed from office. SHIPS & PORTS DAILY further recalls that Maduka had taken over from then interim head of the NAGAFF Tin-Can Chapter, Nwabude, who was appointed to the position following the defection of then substantive Chairman, Mr. Chuks David Kanikwu, to the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA).
However, National President of NAGAFF, Chief Eugene Nweke, had confirmed to SHIPS & PORTS DAILY on Wednesday that the Nwabude-led executives were dismissed for “security reasons”.
An internal memo dated August 27, 2013, and signed by Nweke, a copy of which had earlier been sighted by SHIPS & PORTS DAILY had stated: “After due consultations with the Founder and Principal Officers of the Board of Trustees of our great association and by the virtue of the power vested in me, I hereby convey to you the suspension of your chapter exco with immediate effect. This action has been imperative for security reasons.”
The one-page document added: “You are to hand over all association’s properties in your possession to the Chairman Board of Trustees at the National Headquarters. You are to report to the office of the Board Chairman thereafter with all your executives on Wednesday 4th September, 2013 for further directives.”
