Four docked for stealing items worth N.7m at Apapa port

A 35-year-old clearing agent, Mfon Edet Udoh, was Wednesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing the sum of N4 million meant for the supply of liquefied petroleum gas from one Bayo Laidi, a businessman.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Marvellous Ogbonna told the court that the defendant committed the offence on May 21, 2017 at about 10am at NNPC Depot, Marine Beach, Apapa.

Ogbonna said the defendant obtained the money under the pretence of supplying 35,000 litres of LPG to Laidi, which he did not.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened Sections 314 and 280 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

Udoh pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge bothering on pretence and stealing brought against him.

Magistrate Adenike Alaka granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She ordered that the sureties must produce three years evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case till November 28, 2017 for mention.
