Agent robs woman of N250,000 cash

Fake travel agent docked for N265,000 visa fraud26-year-old visa agent, Osinachi Francis, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing N250,000 under false pretense to procure a South African visa for his client.

Francis is facing a three-count charge bordering on false pretense, fraud and stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Gabriel Ekundayo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometimes in the month of November at no 25 Dada Onijama Street, Ajegunle, Apapa.

“The defendant conspired together with others at large by fraudulently obtaining the sum of N250,000 from one Obi Faith with the pretense that he was going to procure a South African visa for her, the fact which he knows to be false,” Ekundayo said.

The prosecutor also said that the defendant stole the sum of N250,000 from one Obi Faith.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 328 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.

Magistrate Mukaila Fadeyi granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the matter till December 3, 2018 for mention.
