Alleged cultist destroys 17 vehicles’ windscreen in Apapa

Four docked for stealing items worth N.7m at Apapa port
A 21-year-old man, identified as Alabi Ibrahim, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly destroying 17 vehicles’ windscreen in Apapa.

Ibrahim is facing a seven-count charge of weapon possession, terror, stealing, stabbing, cultism and damage.

The prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Bassey, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on September 2, 2018 at about 2:55am at Better Life compound, Ijora Badia, Apapa.

“The defendant had in his possession a jack knife, unlawfully displayed it in a manner to cause terror and threatened to stab one Yahaya Suleman on the neck,” Bassey said.

The prosecutor also said that the defendant had on June 15, 2018 at about 3:30am stolen one Tecno phone valued at N9,000 with N4,000 cash, total value N13,000 property of one Yahaya Suleman.

Bassey added that the defendant had on June 16, 2018 at about 2:30pm at Railway Line, Ijora Badia stabbed one Akeem Alani on the stomach with a knife which caused him harm.

The prosecutor said, “The defendant unlawfully belongs to members of Aiye cult society. On June 15, 2018 at about 3:30pm he unlawfully damaged 17 vehicles windscreen valued at N550,000 property of Obale Community.”

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 56, 51, 287, 173, 43, 42 and 350 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.

Magistrate O.A Erinle granted the defendant bail in the sum of N180,000 with two responsible sureties who must show proof of gainful employment.

According to the Magistrate, one of the sureties must be a blood relation to the defendant.

She adjourned the case till September 24, 2018 for mention.
