An Apapa Magistrate’s Court on Monday rejected bail plea from the defence counsel of a 30-year-old man, Abdul Umar, for allegedly robbing one Nokia phone and N26,000 cash with offensive weapons in Lagos.
Umar is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and robbery.
The prosecutor, Inspector Julius Babatope, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on August 1, 2019 at about 5:30am at Alakija in Badagry Expressway, Lagos.
“The defendant conspired with others at large, armed himself with cutlass and other offensive weapons, and robbed one Nokia phone valued at N3,500 and a cash sum of N26,000 property of one Sarah Imade,” Babatope said.
According to him, the offence is punishable under sections 411 and 297(1)(2)(a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Magistrate Owoyemi Tiamiyu rejected the bail plea from the defence counsel and ordered the case file be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for advice.
He remanded the defendant in prison custody and adjourned the case till September 5, 2019 for mention.
