A 31-year-old man, identified as Ezimorah Kenneth Ifeanyi, was on Monday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly acting as a staff of a Security Service and demanding for N50,000 bribe.
Ifeanyi is facing a one-count charge of false pretence and bribery.
The prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on July 31, 2019 at about 7am at Ago Palace Way, Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos.
“The defendant falsely represented himself to be a staff of Security Service, knowing same to be false, demanded for N50,000 bribe from one Chiagozie Chukwuanu,” Ekpo said.
According to him, the offence is punishable under section 78 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Magistrate Nurudeen Layeni granted him N50,000 bail with one surety in like sum.
The surety is required to furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the case till September 9, 2019 for mention.
