An Apapa Magistrate’s Court sitting in Lagos on Tuesday resumed the trial of a security officer and trader for allegedly stealing imported goods worth N5,216,000 at Kirikiri Town, Apapa.
The security officer, Muhammed Umoru (57) and the trader, Ezeokafor Ifeanyichukwu (33), are facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Iyobosa Onaiwu, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on August 5, 2018 and September 27, 2018 at about 5am at Okoduwa Street, Kirikiri Town, Apapa.
“The defendants conspired together with others at large to steal 199 bundles of expanded metal mesh valued at N1,910,400, 548 cartons of A4 copier paper valued at N3,288,000, 2 cartons of JD ROY thinner and Tiger fix valued at N17,600. All totalling N5,216,000 properties of Joedone International Limited.
“One of the defendants, Ezeokafor Ifeanyichukwu, received all the items knowing same to be stolen,” Onaiwu said.
According to her, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 287 and 328 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
Magistrate O.S Abioye adjourned the matter till February 3, 2020 for continuation of trial.
