The Controller, Apapa Area Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Comptroller Abubakar Bashir has been honoured with the World Customs Organisation (WCO) award for exceptional performance in 2018.

The award, presented to him during the International Customs Day celebration in Abuja by the Comptroller-General of Customs Hameed Ali, has been described by stakeholders and senior officers of the command as honour well-deserved, especially following the command’s outstanding records in revenue generation, trade facilitation and anti-smuggling operations in the last quarter of 2018.

The WCO award is coming only few months after Comptroller Bashir and some officers of the command made a remarkable seizure of 41 containers of tramadol worth more than N7.3 billion.

The Customs officers who seized the unusually large consignment of tramadol had rejected a bribe of N150 million offered them by the importers of the seized item.
