A 37-year-old woman, identified as Ijeoma Jessey, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly biting a police officer’s hand in order to evade arrest.
Jessey is facing a three-count charge bordering on assault and obstruction.
The prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Bassey, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on July 18, 2019 at about 9am at Asubiojo Street, Ajegunle, Apapa.
“The defendant unlawfully assaulted one Chinenye Ezekezie by using stick to hit her all over her body. She also obstructed a police officer while acting in the execution of his duty,” Bassey said.
The prosecutor also said that the defendant unlawfully assaulted one Inspector Michael Odugbo by giving him human bite on his left hand and also inflicted injury on his right hand.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 172, 174 and 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Magistrate A.S Okubule granted her N50,000 bail with one surety in like sum.
The surety is required to furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case till August 5, 2019 for mention.
