Highpoint of the dinner was the presentation of awards and plaques to private terminal operators, shipping companies and three staff of LPC for excelling in customer service delivery.
The concessionaires honoured by LPC at the event include APM Terminals Apapa, ENL Consortium, Apapa Bulk Terminal Limited, Greenview Development Nigeria Limited and Lilypond Container Terminal while shipping companies including Maersk Nigeria Limited, Hull Blyth Nigeria Limited, CMA CGM, PIL, Golden Shipping and Blue Seas were also presented with plaques.
Support service companies including the Lagos Deep Offshore Logistics Base (LADOL) and Eko Support Services; and the Customs Area Controller, Apapa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, Comptroller Charles Edike, also bagged the LPC Customer Service award.
Managing Director of NPA, Mallam Abdullahi, commended the management of LPC for the initiative of recognising the partners, customers and employees of the port who have contributed immensely to its development. He said the initiative was unique and asked the port management to sustain it.
Port Manager of LPC, Mr. Nasir Anas Mohammed, in his speech at the event said that the Customer Service Week is an international event devoted to recognizing the importance of customer service and to honoring the people who serve and support customers with the highest degree of care and professionalism.
The theme for CSW 2013, according to him is Think Service.
“Everyone who works with customers, clients, and others — either on the phone, online or in person — is challenged to “think service” in everything they do,” he stated.
He said CSW 2013 was celebrated with a series of events which commenced on Monday 7th October and culminated with the gala night and award dinner held last Friday. He said he had earlier held a breakfast meeting with the staff of the port to discuss important issues affecting port operation and also led the LPC workers on a visit to the motherless babies’ home and to clean the environment around the port premises earlier in the week as part of the CSW 2013.
Managing Director of APM Terminal Apapa Limited, Mr. Andrew Dawes, in his speech at the event, expressed gratitude to LPC for recognising the contribution of his company and other terminal operators to port development in Nigeria. He also said that much work is being done to ensure that Apapa attains the status of a world class port facility.
The event was also attended by the General Manager of ENL Consortium, Mr. Mark Walsh, Manager of Lilypond Container Terminal, Mr. Tristram Denyer; Managing Director of Hull Blyth, Mr. Christian Holm; Managing Director of PIL, Mr. Jack Langrishe and Base Manager of LADOL, Mr. Chris Van Niekerk.
Other dignitaries at the event include the Managing Director of Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Engr. Adeseyi Sijuwade; Port Managers of Rivers Port, Mrs. Carol Ufere and Tin Can Island Port Complex, Mr. Babatunde Longe; Customs Area Controller Lilypond Command, Comptroller Willy Egbudin, and the representative of the General Manager, Western Ports of NPA, Engr. Odunsi, among others.
