Four docked for stealing items worth N.7m at Apapa port

A 22-year-old Apapa port worker, identified as Ebuka Williams, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing drugs worth N150,000 at the Lagos Port Complex, Apapa.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Adeniyi Balogun told the court that the defendant committed the offence on January 6, 2018 at about 2pm at the port.

Balogun said the defendant stole a carton of pharmaceutical product valued N150,000 property of one Ashiru Mufutau.

According to him, the offence contravened Sections 287(5)(c) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge brought against him.

In his ruling, Magistrate Temitope Babalola granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum. He said the sureties must produce evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government. The sureties must also be working in a reputable organisation. 

He adjourned the case till January 23, 2018 for mention.
