Australia’s Pilbara Ports Authority (PPA) has delivered a total monthly throughput of 52.3 million tons (mt) for the month of January 2017, a rise of 12 percent from the same month in 2016.
The port authority said it saw an increase in cargo volumes despite shipping operations at Dampier and Port Hedland being suspended due to a tropical low.
The Port of Port Hedland achieved a monthly throughput of 40.5mt, representing an increase of 19 percent from the previous year.
In January, iron ore exports went up by 19 percent from the same month last year, totaling 40.2mt.
During the month, imports dropped by 9 percent to 122,000 tons.
The Port of Dampier delivered a total monthly throughput of 11.8mt, a decrease of 7 percent from the previous year.
Imports rose to 114,000 tons, an increase of 53 percent from the previous year.
PPA comprises the Port of Ashburton, the Port of Dampier and the Port of Port Hedland, as well as future ports of Anketell, Balla Balla and Cape Preston East.
