Barge capsizes off Singapore, 14 missing

Fourteen crewmembers were missing after a barge capsized in Singapore waters on yesterday morning.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said the barge believed to be Bolivian-registered sand-carrier,Oceanline SC208 capsized 7.5nm from PedraBranca.

There were 15 crew onboard the barge at the time of the accident and one crewmember, a Chinese national was rescued by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency.

The other 14 crew comprising one Malaysian and 13 Chinese nationals were missing.

“Two vessels were deployed immediately by MPA. Singapore is coordinating the search and rescue (SAR) operations which involves vessels from the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSS Daring and RSS Fearless), the Singapore Police Coast Guard and several Malaysian vessels,” MPA said.
