Barge hits MSC ship in Piraeus

A containership owned by Switzerland-based Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) was struck by a bunker barge while berthed in the Port of Piraeus, Greece. 

The incident involving the 4,507 TEU MSC Brianna and the 6,400 dwt Erato occurred last Wednesday, August 23.

MSC Brianna’s hull reportedly sustained minor damages in the accident. 

“Having concluded cargo operations the vessel is undergoing repairs and is expected to resume service on about August 26,” a spokesperson of MSC said.

It is not clear whether the barge was damaged in the incident.
