The Ogun area command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intercepted nine fairly used vehicles, foreign parboiled rice and vegetable oil with Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N41million in ten days.
This came barely two weeks after the Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone A, Ikeja and the Comptroller-General Compliance team intercepted 37 brand new vehicles smuggled into the country through the land borders.
Addressing journalists at the command headquarters, Abeokuta on Tuesday, Controller of the command, Sani Madugu said the seizures were made during its rigorous anti smuggling exercise in the State.
He said the items seized include nine used (tokunbo) vehicles, 2,042 bags of foreign Rice and 220 kegs of vegetable oil all with DPV of N41million.
The CAC warned smugglers to stay away from the State saying the command is always at alert to curtail smuggling in the State.
“We are warning smugglers to stay away from Ogun state because we will make the axis hot for them. With my officers and men we are working round the clock. We now operate shift as some of us go to sleep in the day time and some at night.
“We are coordinating ourselves to operate 24 hours to resist smuggling. Last week we were able to intercept rice, vegetable oil, cars at idiroko area and Abeokuta axis. We’ll not relent in our effort, we will continue to fight this act,” he said.
