The Customs Area Controller (CAC), Apapa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Comptroller Charles Edike, has taken a decisive step to discourage loitering by Customs agents at facilities under the Command.
Consequently, Edike has directed all agents operating at the Customs office located at the terminal of APM Terminals Apapa Limited to vacate the area and relocate to their respective offices.
SHIPS & PORTS DAILY gathered that, in prosecuting the CAC’s directives, a number of agents, allegedly found loitering around the premises, were last Friday chased out of the APM Terminals Customs office by operatives of Customs Enforcement Unit.
Consequently, Edike has directed all agents operating at the Customs office located at the terminal of APM Terminals Apapa Limited to vacate the area and relocate to their respective offices.

And, in a press statement signed by Customs Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of the Apapa Area Command, Chief Superintendent of Customs Emmanuel Ekpa, the CAC noted that it is mandatory for every agent to operate a functional office.
This, according to Edike, was a condition for granting operational licence to an agent.
The Customs boss thereby warned that, henceforth, agents found operating veritable offices at the APM Terminals Customs office would be regarded as touts.
