A 41-year-old clearing agent, Odoh Comos, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly presenting a cheque of N200,000 which was dishonoured.
Comos is facing a one-count charge of fraud.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Kolade Tedunjaye, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometimes in 2018 at about 12pm at Festac Town, Lagos.
“The defendant issued Diamond Bank cheque leaflet number 39404491 dated March 16, 2018 in favour of Allmart Store Limited for the sum of N200,000 when presented for payment it was dishonoured on the ground that no funds or insufficient funds was standing on the credit of the drawer of the cheque in the bank on which the cheque was drawn,” Tedunjaye said
According to her, the offence is punishable under section 315(b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Magistrate F.J Adefioye granted him N100,000 bail with one surety in like sum.
The surety is required to furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the case till January 27, 2020 for trial.
