The police on Thursday arraigned a 26-year-old clearing agent, Tochukuwu Chiegeiro, before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing N780,000 for the supply of 200 pieces of slicing blade in Lagos.
Cheigeiro is facing a two-count charge of false pretence and stealing. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Inspector James Okosun, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometimes in September 2019 at about 2pm at Abule-Ado, Amuwo-Odofin, Festac Twon, Lagos.
“The defendant, with intent to defraud, obtained the sum of N780,000 from one Ugwuanyi Callistus Ikechukwu with pretence to supply him 200 pieces of slicing blade, a representation he knows to be false.
“He stole the sum of N780,000 property of Ugwuanyi Callistus Ikechukwu,” Okosun said.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 314 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
Magistrate G.O Tiamiyu granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum. The sureties are required to furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the matter till March 24, 2020 for mention.
