A magistrates’ court sitting in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Thursday, sentenced one Taiwo Oloyede to three years imprisonment for fraudulently obtaining N750,000 from one Yakubu Arowokoko on the pretext of helping him clear trucks from the Apapa Port.
Oloyede, with no fixed address, was arraigned on a two-count charge of fraud and stealing.
The prosecutor, Olakunle Shonibare, told the court that he committed the offence in October 2017 at No 21, Arowokoko Street, Ago-Odo area of Abeokuta.
Shonibare said the suspect obtained the sum of N750,000 from the complainant with the promise to assist him clear five unregistered heavy duty Mack trucks at the Apapa Port in Lagos.
In his ruling, the Magistrate I. O Abudu, held that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt that the convict was guilty as charged.
She thereafter sentenced Oloyede to three years imprisonment without an option of fine.
The magistrate also ordered that he must refund the money collected from the complainant.
