Clearing agents steal N1.8m phone accessories at Tin Can port

Three clearing agents: Chika Orji (23), Yusuf Ismaila (31) and Wasiu Tobi Ramos (38) were on Wednesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing phone accessories worth N1.8 million at the Tin Can Island Container Terminal (TICT), Tin Can Island Port Complex, Apapa.

Orji, Ismaila and Ramos are facing a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Ferdinand Asu, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on September 23, 2018.

“The defendants conspired together with others at large to steal six cartons of phone accessories valued at N1,820,000 property of Country Side Marine Service Ltd,” Asu said.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.

Magistrate Mukaila Fadeyi granted the defendants bail in the sum of N250, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the matter till November 14, 2018 for mention.
