Court begins trial of man for stealing petrol in Apapa

An Apapa Magistrates’ Court sitting in Lagos on Wednesday began the trial of a 35-year-old man, Garari Mohammed Ojo for allegedly stealing 1, 147 litres of petrol in Apapa.

Ojo was arraigned in May 16, 2018 and is facing a one-count charge bothering on stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Benedict Aigbokhan told the court that the defendant committed the offence between April 12 and May 9, 2018 at about 12:41pm at Apapa.

“The defendant stole 1,147 litres of PMS product popularly known as petrol valued N166,315 property of Akamak Investment Limited,” Aigbokhan said.

According to him, the offence is punishable under section 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.

Magistrate Joy Ugbomoiko had granted the defendant bail in the sum of N20,000 with one surety.

She adjourned the case till July 17, 2018 for continuation of trial.
